The Licence to Green Up

Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center is the new licence holder of the Austrian Ecolabel “Green Meetings“ and “Green Events“

WIEN (8th March 2016). – Economic issues became much more of an importance in the 2nd district of Vienna. The Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center as of late is the new licence holder of the Austrian Ecolabel “Green Meetings“ and “Green Events“ and thus increases its efforts in social responsibility. Until now the location focussed on internal actions such as getting its electricity from renewable energy, using photovoltaic systems, waste prevention and waste separation, including a corporate waste management concept and 23 charging stations for e-mobility vehicles in the location’s own parking garages. As the new licence holder the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center can now even licence Green Meetings and Green Events for its customers.

“Ecological awareness is part of our daily business and inures to the benefit of our customers, suppliers, visitors and employees”, says Renate Dobler-Jerabek (Mag.), Director of Congresses and Events at Reed Exhibitions. “Our Green Thinking is an important asset in the national and international meeting business. As operator of the leading exhibition and congress location in Austria the new licence for us is the logical next step in our understanding of being a modern, eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable company. This is a quality that is increasingly required and much appreciated by international congress organisers.”

Full support in the process of certification

In practice the experienced team of the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center assists its customers in planning and during the process of certification. Venues of various sizes, that is congresses as well as meetings and events, are planned much more efficiently and environmentally sustainable with the knowhow of the team and in due course are eligible for being licenced “Green Meeting” or “Green Event” according to the Austrian Ecolabel. Most helpful in this process is the fact that the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center already offers most of the required mandatory criteria. These criteria already in practice are an environmentally friendly access due to direct connection to the public transport system of Vienna and two directly adjoined subway stations; sustainable and recyclable goods used for supplying guests; use of regional and seasonal grocery; two eco-licenced exclusive caterers; eco-friendly materials and procurement.
