Repositioning of Messe Wien: Takeover of RX Wien GmbH completed

Vienna, January 8, 2025 – New management team in place, brand relaunch to be presented in the first quarter of 2025

Vienna, January 8, 2025 – The takeover of RX Wien GmbH by the City of Vienna – precisely WSE Wiener Standortentwicklung GmbH, part of Wien Holding – was completed on schedule by the end of the year 2024. Following the formal closing, the new management team (see picture) presented its goals and next steps at a joint employee event.

The management team of the company, which will operate under the new name Wiener Messe und Congress GmbH, consists of three people: Katharina WEISHAUPT, already Managing Director of Wiener Messe Besitz GmbH (MBG), will be responsible for Infrastructure, Legal and Organisation (CEO), Martina CANDILLO, most recently Director Congresses & Events at RX, will be responsible for Sales, Event Operations and Business Development (COO), and Christoph MAHLBERG, already part of the RX management team, will continue to be responsible for Finance and Controlling (CFO). ‘Our goal is clearly to further expand Messe Wien’s leading international position, especially in the congress and conference business, and to set new trends in the exhibition industry,’ emphasised all three in unison.

 “Ideally positioned to continue its successful course”

As a venue operator, the company, which is now part of Wien Holding, is responsible for marketing and renting out the event space of Messe Wien. Congresses, conferences and exhibitions held there, will still be organized and staged by professional event and exhibition specialists and partners.

City Councillor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke is delighted with the smooth running and successful completion of the takeover: “Messe Wien is an indispensable driving force for Vienna’s economy and makes a significant contribution to the international visibility of our city. With the takeover of the company, we are now ideally positioned to continue this successful course,” explained Hanke.

‘This takeover not only ensures the greatest possible continuity in the operation of the location, but also opens up new opportunities for the development and strengthening of Messe Wien,’ added Oliver Stribl, Managing Director of Wien Holding.

New brand image to be launched

In addition to a rapid integration, the next development steps will focus on promoting these changes internationally. As part of the transformation, a brand relaunch is being prepared, which will be presented to the public in the first quarter of 2025.

All employees of RX Wien GmbH have been taken on and the team is set to grow further in 2025.  In a statement on behalf of WSE, Managing Director Josef Herwei underlines that the success of Messe Wien is based above all on its committed employees and long-standing partnerships, both of which will make a significant contribution to continuing further successful development of the location. “Together with our great team and our partners, we want to set new standards and lead Messe Wien successfully into the future,” Herwei summarized.
